Kogi Assembly raises panel to stop another strike

The Kogi State House of Assembly , on Wednesday , set up a seven-man committee to hold talks with the organised labour in the state in a bid to avert a looming industrial action .

Organised labour in Kogi State had issued a one-week ultimatum to the Kogi State Government to pay its workers their full salary or risk a strike ..

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the action followed the adoption of a motion of Urgent Public Importance moved by Haruna Musa ( All Progressives Congress , Idah ) at a plenary in Lokoja .

Musa had said it would be disastrous for the workers go on strike “ at this trying period” of the nation’ s economy.

Seconding the motion, the Deputy Speaker , Hassan Àbdullahi ( APC -Dekina-Okura ) emphasied the need for industrial harmony between the state government and its employees ..

The Speaker , Mr . Matthew Kolawole , after the motion was adopted through a voice vote, set up a seven-man committee to meet with labour leaders .

Kolawole said the committee should interface with labour immediately to avert the looming strike , which, he said, would be detrimental to the state .
