Tertiary institutions in North-East abandon research, divert money to fund security

In the last few years, the word North East has become very familiar with many Nigerians . Beyond being one of the geo-political zones of the country , the area has garnered more popularity through the most unlikely of way . An eight-year reign of terror by deadly Islamist sect – Boko Haram – which has claimed more than 20 , 000 lives and rendered thousands more with permanent disabilities and without homes, has helped make the word a daily phrase on the lips of most citizens. Even though the Nigerian military in collaboration with other security agencies has made appreciable progress in the battle against the insurgents, much of the region is still plagued by violence and unprovoked killings of the innocent by members of the sect.
